The popular text and souce code Editor, Notepad++ updated to support the new Context menu in Windows 11. Version 8.5 has brought the ability to open text files in Notepad++ much faster or quicker with the new “Edit with Notepad++” right-click menu item.
Windows 11 new Context Menu
Microsoft has released Windows 11 with a new centered Start Menu, Taskbar, and improved UI. Windows 11 comes with a new context menu to support modern design.
Furthermore, the new context menu no longer shows app shortcuts when you right-click. You need to go through “Show more options” to get the old Classic menu back.
While this has been tiresome for users, Micorsoft said, they kept the new menu tidy and compact by removing unnecessary items presented from the Windows XP era.
The company suggested developers update their apps and adopt a modern right-click menu.
Recently, WinRAR did that, and now Notepaad++ with version 8.5 was released on March 06, 2023.
So. the app developers are on the right path. And it may take a while for users to check their favorite apps menu items in Windows 11 right-click menu.
Notepad++ 8.5
With requests from the Notepad++ user community, the developer has launched Notepad++ 8.5 with new right-click menu support.
Before this version, to open text files in Notepad++ in Windows 11, you need to right-click on a text file and go to the old menu and select the “Edit with Notepad++ option.
Now, these extended right clicks are no longer necessary.’

You can now just right-click on any text file on the desktop or File Explorer and select “Edit with Notepad++” to work on that file in Notepad++.
This update along with Windows 11 Context menu support comes with a slew of bug fixes and improvements.

Note: Only the Notepad++ installer supports this, but not portable. So, you must install Notepad++ to benefit.
