Firefox 111
Mozilla released Firefox 111 on March 14, 2023, with Windows Native notifications enabled by default.
Note: The same update has also taken away hidden pref in about:config that disables the Unified Extensions button, we’ve covered an article on how to remove the Extensions button from the Firefox toolbar here.
Ever since release, there are multiple reports over Mozilla support forum from Mac users that they cannot drag and drop downloads to desktop.

Firefox for Mac bug prevents downloads drag and drop to the desktop
When Firefox users running on Mac try to drag and drop files from the downloads bar and download popup to the desktop, they’re not able to.
You normally download a file in Firefox, it appears on the download bar, you hold your mouse button and drag and drop the file to the desktop to notice, but nothing happens.
“I am currently running the latest version of Firefox 111.0 (64-bit) on an Intel Mac OS machine. Firefox updated automatically per usual but now I am no longer able to drag from my toolbar downloads dropdown to either my desktop or any folder on mac” one user reported.
Another user posted saying “probably, after the last update, I can’t drag downloaded files from downloads”
” I am suddenly unable to drag downloaded files from Firefox to a folder on my mac. This is a new issue -always worked before. What’s the fix? Thanks”
It is unclear whether this was Firefox’s or mac os’s issue. Others running Chrome or Safari have not reported this, so this could be something to do with Firefox 111 update.
If you’re affected,
- try to use another browser
- downgrade to the Firefox version that worked before
- Wait for Mozilla to fix the issue.
