When Profile Manager aka about: profiles page is not enough, then the add-on named Profile Switcher available on AMO lets you easily manage or switch between profiles in Firefox from the toolbar like in Chrome.
Firefox stores your preferences, bookmarks, history in a separate folder from Program Files called Profile. You can create multiple profiles.
The Firefox profile manager lets you create, remove, rename and switch profiles.
To be more precise, It displays all the profiles and allows to accomplish the following actions on each:
- Rename a profile,
- Remove a profile
- Set a particular profile as default,
- Launch profile in a new window
You can use the Profile manager also to manage profiles when Firefox is not running. This could be helpful when Firefox doesn’t open when you launch.
Enter Firefox.exe -p command in the Run dialog and choose a profile to start or you can delete or rename a particular profile.
Most users unaware of the command will definitely find the about: profiles page helpful.
Get Chrome-like Profile Manager in Firefox
But Chrome allows changing between profiles from the toolbar.
It displays other profiles to conveniently switch to from the active profile button itself.

The extension works on Windows and Linux but requires additional software “Profile switcher for Firefox connector” for the addon to function.
Using Profile Switcher in Firefox
- After installing the extension, click on the profile icon in the toolbar.
- It lists multiple profiles you’re running in Firefox under Other profiles.
- You can click on a profile to launch in a new browser window.
- The Manage profiles option at the bottom allows you to add a new profile or edit an existing profile.
- You can able to add profile pictures when you add or edit a profile.
