Windows update is now showing Windows 10 2004 “isn’t quite ready” banner on Some devices

To prevent users from going ahead with Windows 10 May 2020 Update installation on their devices (which possibly could have compatibility issues), Windows Update in Windows 10 version 1909 and earlier versions is informing the user in advance that their device “isn’t quite ready” to receive the “Feature update to Windows 10 version 2004”.

Microsoft has clearly said seekers running Windows 10 1903 and 1909 can visit Windows Update and manually check for updates to install Windows 10 May 2020 Update, if offered to their devices.

Windows 10 2004 already has a lot of known issues and it won’t be offered to devices if memory integration is enabled due to compatibility issues with certain display drivers.

Users should disable HVCI on their devices before proceeding towards the May 2020 feature update upgrade, check the instructions for that here.

A Redditor in a thread enquired the criteria for the devices to be ready for Windows 10 May 2020 Update. He shared a screenshot of the Windows update showing a banner that his device is not ready to receive the feature update.

“Feature Update to Windows 10, version 2004. The Windows May 2020 Update is on its way. We’re offering this update to compatible devices, but your device isn’t quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you’ll see the update available on this page. There is nothing you need to do this time”.

If you’ve received this banner, here is what you can do for Windows Update to show the feature update available notification

  1. Update your hardware drivers
  2. Disable Core Isolation by going to Settings > Windows Security > Open Windows Security > Devie Security > Core isolation details.
  3. Keep checking Windows 10 2004 release information page for mitigations and resolutions for Known issues.
