Windows 10 2004 Shows new Microsoft Edge download Ad on Search & Start Menu

If you’ve not installed the new Microsoft Edge browser in Windows 10 May 2020 Update, then Microsoft shows an ad recommending the browser in the Windows Search. New Edge download ad also appears in Start Menu if you search for browsers, such as Internet Explorer, Edge, Chrome, and Firefox.

Microsoft has recently launched Windows 10 May 2020 Update and is available via Windows Update when you manually check for updates.

If you’ve upgraded or clean installed the latest Windows 10 release, with classic Edge available on your computer, when you click on the search box, Windows Search shows the new Microsoft Edge ad with the “Download now” button. You need to scroll down to see it.

Here is what the ad reads “Get the new Microsoft Edge. The new Microsoft Edge was built to bring you the best of the web.” You can dismiss it by clicking the ‘x’ icon.

If you search for Edge and its competing browsers such as Chrome and Firefox, the Start Menu will also show the promotion.

Microsoft is known for pushing Edge when the users try to install other popular browsers. Recently, Reddit users reported the Windows 10 Start menu showed an Edge ad targetting Firefox.

Microsoft Edge based on Chromium syncs bookmarks, extensions, Settings to all devices. Newly launched Collections and about to be available Smart Copy, vertical tabs, sidebar Search and Password Monitor will keep the users interested in using the browser.

Don’t forget Microsoft has ported or bringing most of Legacy Edge features to its successor.

IMO, Microsoft doesn’t need to promote Chromium Edge on Windows. The ads displayed now are not intrusive either. To see them, the user either needs to scroll down in search or search for relevant keywords in the Start menu.

It’s worth noting that there is no setting to control these as we already disabled “Show suggestions occasionally in Start” Setting in Personalization.
