The latest Windows 10 May 2020 Update won’t be offered or prevented from installing on devices if they have Memory Integrity Protection, also called Hypervisor-Protected Code integrity (HVCI) enabled, Microsoft says in a support document.
Windows 10 May 2020 Update is officially available from May 27. Seekers can manually check for updates or use the Media Creation Tool to install the update.
Microsoft is rolling out the feature update slowly. You may need to wait until the update is offered to your device via Windows Update.
The Redmond giant already listed a slew of known issues for Windows 10 2004 on the Windows Release health dashboard. The company in a separate support document noted it has applied compatibility hold on devices that have memory Integrity feature turned on and hence Windows 10 2004 update will be prevented from installing or being offered on these devices.
If you try to update your PC to Windows 10 2004 with Memory Integrity enabled, you’ll receive a message informing “your PC Settings needs to be adjusted before upgrading to the latest version of windows 10” and it suggests to turn off memory integration protection “to continue.”
Microsoft mentions the reason for blocking Windows 10 2004 as below.
An incompatibility has been found with certain display drivers and Windows 10, version 2004 when memory integrity protection is enabled.
To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on these devices from installing or being offered Windows 10, version 2004.
Here to update to Windows 10, version 2004 you need to do either of the following things.
- Update your display drivers by connecting to Windows Update
- If the first one is not possible, you need to turn off memory Integrity, check the steps for how to do that below.
Disable Memory Integrity Protection in Windows 10 to install May 2020 Update
1. Click Start >Settings
2. Click Update & Security > Windows Security
3. Click on Device Security > core Isolation > Core Isolation Details > Memory Integrity, toggle the switch to off.
4. Restart your computer.
Do note Microsoft has not mentioned this in known issues list it is maintaining, the company said: “We are working on a resolution and will provide in an upcoming release”.
Microsoft suggests not to update to Windows 10 2004 by clicking update now or by using the Media Creation tool until the issue is resolved.
