Vivaldi browser’s unique feature of applying site colors to the title bar for tabs is now being implemented (sort of) by Microsoft to apps installed from the Chromium Edge browser. Microsoft says the latest Edge Canary has this feature included.
Irrespective of whether a site is a Progressive Web App or not, you can able to install any site as App in the Chromium Edge browser. For that, visit a site, click on the ellipsis icon and select ” Install this site as App”. We’ve recently reported Redmond Software giant is planning to make PWAs more native in Windows 10 by allowing to uninstall more easily from control panel and they are on their way to get badges and jumplists.
Another interesting feature added to Edge Web Apps is Microsoft Edge now automatically applies site color to the title bar for the App. You can notice this working for Facebook, YouTube, and other sites which installed as Apps. While Vivaldi fetches site favicon color and applies to the tab, Microsoft not revealed how it has developed this feature.
Microsoft Edge Senior PM, William Devereux says ” Yes, this is a new feature we’re working on! Now, when you install a site as an App, we’ll automatically theme title bar based on the site’s colors. This happens automatically but as always web developers can specify their own color and override this automatic theming. ”
