We’ve recently reported Microsoft offered News feed disable option on the New Tab Page to some users in Edge Canary, it’s now available for everyone in the latest Microsoft Edge Canary 79 build. If the News content on NTP in Edge browser is annoying you, you can now remove it, here is how.
Edge Canary latest build also got media autoplay blocking option under Site Permissions in Settings and the new Tracking Prevention section showed by Microsoft at Build 2019 is also available at edge://settings/privacy page.
And, the New Tab Page now completely supports dark mode in Windows 10. To test it, click on Settings > Personalization > Colors, select “dark” as default app mode, now launch the new Edge browser and open new tab page to see it to go completely dark.
Now coming to the main point of the article, the custom option in New Tab Page layout has been updated to provide the following options for content:
- Content Visible,
- Headings only.
- Content visible on scroll
- Content off.
The things are pretty-much self-explanatory, to get rid of news content on New Tab Page in Edge Chromium, you need to choose last option, here are steps to follow for that.
1. Launch Edge browser
2. Open a new tab
3. Click on NTP settings icon, click on Custom,
4. Click on down arrow and choose “Content off”, reload the new tab for news to disappear.
Do note, the NTP customization options provided in browser settings page have been removed, the customize link for New Tab Page in Edge Settings now routes user to new tab page.
