Google has added a new Tab Hover Cards flag to Chrome 73, which when enabled when you hover over a tab, instead of showing a tooltip with the page title, will show tab information containing page title and domain.
Tab Hover Cards flag added (bug number 910379) on November 30 by Chrome developers is now working after they have landed commit in the last 24 hours. The flag is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS in both Chrome Canary and developer versions, but works in former only for the moment, when enabled, shows page title and domain when you hover over a tab.
Here is the description you’ll see when you visit chrome://flags page in Canary: “Enables a popup containing tab information to be visible when hovering over a tab. This will replace tooltips for tabs”
To test Tab Hover Cards experimental feature in Chrome
1. Download latest Chrome Canary
2. Visit Chrome://flags page
3. Find ‘Tab Hover Cards’ and enable it, relaunch browser. Try to hover the mouse pointer over a tab to see how the new feature works.
As you know, flags are experimental features, they’re intended for Chrome developers for testing, they can disappear at any time. We came to know the existence of the flag through this Reddit thread.
