Microsoft may Separate Windows Search from Cortana in Windows 10 19H1 build

Last updated on November 11, 2018 By Venkat

How many of you disable Cortana after installing Windows 10 or don’t use it at all, and if you hate Cortana for showing unwanted web results in Start menu when you search, the personal assistant created by Microsoft for Windows 10 may not appear to you unless you launch intentionally.  As revealed by Albatross, MS is planning to separate Windows Search from Cortana in Windows 10 19H1 build. Do note, the changes neither officially announced nor made to insider build, but screenshots say this can happen.

From the image below, you can notice Cortana and Search have different icons on the taskbar, and search icon on the taskbar can be hidden by using the option present in the context menu.

The second picture posted by Albatross on Twitter, tells us that Cortana no longer gets involved when you search from Start, the default behavior is to find and display Web results from Bing on your screen, here Windows Search limits the search to PC only. Do know, recently, Microsoft has introduced enhanced mode for search indexer to index and display files from all drives in your PC when you search, so the search experience in your PC is going to get better when you avoid Cortana.

You can launch Cortana by clicking on its icon on the taskbar. These changes definitely make sense.
