Firefox 61: New Tab Page Settings moved to Home Section in Options

Last updated on April 1, 2018 By Venkat

The New Tab Page Settings have been moved to a new Home section in about:preferences in Firefox. Now if you click on the cog wheel icon on the new tab in Firefox 61, you’ll be moved to the new Home section in the options. But with this change, you need to switch to or open a new tab to see the changes you’ve made, may not be a good move? Where before this change user can able to see the result right away on the activity stream page while making modifications.

FYI, the Home section contains two subsections:  “New Windows and Tabs” and “Firefox Home Content”. The former allows to choose what you see when you open your homepage, new windows and new tabs, where as latter lets you set which content — Web Search, Top Sites, Highlights and Snippets– you want to appear on your Firefox New Tab Page.

From now on, to customize the Firefox new tab page and homepage, you have to either click on Menu > Options >Home or visit new tab and click on cog wheel to reach the Home section in options. Is Mozilla simplifying things or making difficult for users?
