How to Uninstall or Remove SecureLine VPN from Avast? [Updated]

Last updated on November 12, 2016 By Venkat

If you’ve recently installed latest Avast v8 cleanly on your computer by choosing “Express Settings” during the setup, then you should know that SecureLine VPN service also installed for you along with Avast. FYI, recent minor update 8.0.1488.286 for Avast has added SecureLine VPN service, not free? You need to pay $59.99 per year to use this. So what’s the point of this VPN service installed if you won’t purchase the license and use it? Do you want to get rid of it? Then follow the steps mentioned below.

Avast Free AV with SecureLine Installed but not activated

  • How to Uninstall GrimeFighter from Avast?
  • How to Uninstall or Remove Avast Online Security from Firefox, Chrome and IE browsers at Once?

Uninstalling or Removing Avast SecureLine VPN from computer

1. On Start Menu click on Control Panel

2. Programs>Programs and Features select Avast Free Antivirus and click on “Uninstall/change” button.

3. On Setup window, select “Change” and click on ‘Next’ button to proceed for Avast Installer to show the installed components.

4. Now Uncheck or deselect SecureLine and click ‘Next’ button for the installer to make changes to Avast free AV you’ve requested.

uncheck SecureLine component

5. Once the changes are made, “the product successfully updated” message will be shown on the screen, click on ‘finish’ button to exit.

That’s it! SecureLine VPN service which Avast has installed has been removed.

Note: You can try Avast SecureLine VPN service free for 24-hours by opening Avast interface>Security>SecureLine and click on “connect” button on right side and further click on 24-hour trial.

UPDATE: More easier way to uninstall SecureLine VPN with the latest Avast version that has integrated components menu in Avast settings.

1. Open Avast user interface, click on cog wheel to open Settings

2. Click on Components and under Privacy, click on down arrow for SecureLine VPN and  click on Uninstall Component.

3. Click OK, done. Avast makes the changes you’ve requested, restart your computer after that to apply the changes.

I am using free version and the SECURELINE option does not appear where you say it does. They must have updated the software to make it impossible to disable the VPN until you buy the antivirus package. Wish I could because it sure gets in the way at boot-up. :-(

Alex, they’ve not changed anything in the setup, its same. Try to reinstall Avast using the offline link from http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe and then follow the steps mentioned in that article, has that helped you? Let me know.

Can someone tell me how I can cancel the VPN service? We are now being charged $7.99 a month for this and we don’t need it. One home pc with a secure network that never uses public wifi. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

For some reason Avast go uninstalled completely. It did not prompt me to selectively remove Secureline. I’d to reinstall Avast and chose custom installation to uncheck ‘Secureline’. One shouldn’t have to go through this much hassle to get rid of something they dont want.

On Mac, I opened Secureline from (the annoying little icon in the) menu bar (Open Secureline Window or some such), and in the file menu there was an option to uninstall Secureline. The rest of Avast is still there. :)

I think Avast has messed up my computer, I have very little pc know how. Symbol on 3 month old machine comes up saying Avast disconnected. They want money to reconnect, not prepared to pay. Go to start button to follow your uninstall instructions, computer says critical error has occurred, will try to fix when restarted. Been doing this all morning. Cannot access Internet on computer either. Please help!

Are you using Windows 10? Critical error is somewhat common now a days in Windows 10, ensure you’ve all the updates installed? https://techdows.com/2015/08/microsoft-yet-to-fix-windows-10s-start-menu-and-cortana-arent-working-critical-error.html Check you’ve apps that are mentioned in the comments in that post, which are likely causing the error.

Signed up for the Avast Secure Line, 2 weeks later decided it wasn’t what I wanted and uninstalled. Will Avast issue refund automatically? I can’t seem to find how to apply for refund.
