Ever since updating certain apps today, we started to notice “info channel service” “pgm added”‘ message being displayed now and then at random times while streaming video or watching shows on Android TV. If you’re affected, here is the solution.
While updating apps on Android TV fixes bugs and adds new features and improves performance, recently some users including us today, started seeing weird pgm added notifications on the TV Screen.
This is really annoying and unsure what is causing that. For instance, we’ve updated the following Apps.
- Disney Hotstar
- Chromecast built-in
- Prime Video
- Android TV Home
- Jio Cinema
- YouTube
- Android TV Core Services
- Android System WebView
- Google App for Android TV
Turns out this was caused by the Jio Cinema app that is sending toast notifications.
Disable ‘pgm added’ message on Android TV
Disabling its notifications fixes the issue or you can uninstall it if you think it is no longer necessary.
Depending on the TV model you’re using the instructions may be different to you, here is as per ours Mi TV 4x,
- Select Cogwheel
- Select Additional Settings > Apps
- Go to Jio Cinema and turn off Notifications.
Note: If you’re not using Jio Cinema, and still seeing the problem, the recently updated app may be the culprit, disable notifications or uninstall it to see it solves the problem,
The issue is caused by an app, so ,nothing to do with particular TV branding. For instance, this was reported by users running Sony, OnePlus, and MI TV devices.
Let us hope the Jio Cinema App buggy update that caused this issue may be fixed by the developer, meanwhile, you can follow the above instructions to resolve the issue.
If you’re not experiencing this and using the above-said app, don’t update it for a few days. After all the update supposed to fix bugs introduces a new problem.
