Notepad++, open-source code and text editor, is used by developers and advanced users as a replacement for Windows notepad. It supports most programming languages after all. Notepad++ developer finally addressed the most wanted request where the new Notepad++ v7.9.4 allows users to stop the beep sound that happens when the search is unsuccessful.
Here is how you can reproduce the issue when using Find in Notepad++
- Launch Notepad++
- Open any file
- Press Ctrl+F or click on search and select Find
- Type some word, if Notepad++ can’t find the word you entered in the file, it gives an error with a sound.

Most users found the beep sound error annoying and want to disable it without affecting other applications on Windows.
And, there is a tedious way to do that.
- Right-click on the Volume icon on the taskbar
- Select Open Volume mixer
- Mute NotePad++ that displayed as one of the Applications
Notepad++ may not appear to all in the Volume mixer, this has been reported by many, we too can confirm that.
Notepad++ 7.9.4

The new versions come with an option in Miscellaneous settings to mute sounds.
You need to enable it to avoid the issue when using Notepad++
