Firefox 96 is arriving today, here is what’s new

After Firefox 95, Mozilla is set to release the first Firefox update in 2022 with version 96. Firefox 96 is a pretty minor update that includes various changes, performance, and security improvements, and bug fixes. Take a look at the release notes below

What’s new:

  1. The release comes with significant improvements in noise suppression and auto-grain control, in addition, slight improvements in echo-cancellation to provide you with a better overall experience.
  2. Mozilla claims they’ve significantly reduced the Main-thread load.
  3. Firefox will now enforce Cookie policy:same-site=lax by default to protect against Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF) attacks.Firefox 96 releasing today check new features, changes and fixes

Fixed:

  • mac OS: command clicking links in Gmail now open in a new tab.
  • The update fixes video intermittently drops SSRC.
  • Another issue where WebRTC downgrades screen sharing resolution to provide you with a clear browsing experience has been addressed.
  • Fixed video quality degradation on certain sites.
  • Detached video fullscreen in macOS has been temporarily disabled to avoid some issues with corruption, brightness changes, missing subtitles, and high CPU usage.
  • Includes various security fixes.

Firefox 96.0 release notes (not available).

As of writing the article, Firefox 96 is not released, it will come later today. If you can’t wait, you can grab your copy for Windows or Mac or Linux from the Mozilla FTP site.

Firefox is getting scrollbar improvements on Windows 11

Mozilla Firefox supports Snap layouts and its scrollbar being updated to match the look and feel of Windows 11. in fact Mozilla is enhancing Firefox Scrollbar on all supported platforms. The changes are targeted for Firefox 97.

In addition to the web, Firefox is now available on Microsoft Store on Windows 10 and Windows 11. Firefox updates will be delivered automatically via Store.

In case you forget, Firefox supports tab unloading and you can do it on demand by visiting the about:unloads page.
