Microsoft addresses Edge’s Default Search Engines can’t be removed the issue
Yesterday we reported Google has fixed an issue where users couldn’t delete default search engines in the Chrome browser. Chrome 97 is affected by this issue, Chrome 99 Canary makes SEs deletable again. Micorsoft Edge 97 was also hit by the issue. Microsoft claims today’s Edge dev update addresses the issue.
Here is more background on the issue:
Chromium users running Chrome and Microsoft Edge version 97 noticed the built-in search engines are no longer deletable. Turns out that’s the intention from Google and this change is also part of the manage Search engine settings page redesign. Google later reverted the change after reports realizing the delete option was used as a workaround to prevent search engine hijacking.
Microsoft today released an update to Edge 99 dev and claims “fixed an issue where certain search providers can’t be removed from edge://settings/search engines”.
Other than that, here is what’s new in Edge 99.0.1135.5 Dev
- Like Edge Legacy, Edge now shows search suggestions immediately when you click on the address bar
- Web Capture support for PDFs.
- Added the ability to change the units that the air temperature is shown on moble’s new tab page.
