How to run Legacy and New Microsoft Edge side by Side on Windows 10

After installing the new Microsoft Edge browser in Windows 10, you can still access old/Legacy Edge along with the new Edge.

As announced, Microsoft has launched Microsoft Edge based on Chromium for Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, and macOS and is available for download.

If you still not have manually installed a new Microsoft Edge release, Windows Update will install a new Edge to replace old Edge 

Microsoft says running side by side running of Edge browsers is possible, you need to follow the below steps to achieve that.

If you’ve installed new Microsoft Edge browser, uninstall it like below:

I.

1. Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features

2. Select Microsoft Edge and click Uninstall, and follow the instructions on the screen.

1. Open Run dialog and enter “regedit” command without quotes to open the registry editor

2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft or in the registry editor address bar, paste ” Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft”

3. Right-click on Microsoft > New > key and create a new key named EdgeUpdate

Ensure EdgeUpdate is selected in the left pane, right-click on the right pane and create a new D-Word 32-bit value and name it as “Allowsxs” and give its value as 1

4. Exit Registry Editor.

5. Visit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge and download Edge for Windows 10.

6. Click Accept and Download

7. Ensure your device is connected to the Internet, run the MicrosoftEdgeSetup file, Edge will be downloaded and installed shortly.

Once the installation is complete, the Microsoft Edge Legacy will appear on the Start menu.

From now on, If you search for Edge, Edge Legacy will also be displayed along with Chromium Edge builds installed on your machine, pin the former to the taskbar and start enjoying both Edge versions.
