Till now to delete an unwanted suggestion in the address bar in Google Chrome, you need to use Shift+Del shortcut on the keyboard, that’s no longer required in future Chrome versions as you can able to remove those with your mouse.
A bug that created 11 years back to allow users to discover a UI that lets them remove suggestions, is now on the verge of getting fixed. Chrome engineer, Peter Kasting proposed two approaches for this: A X or trash icon that appears on the right side of suggestion and a right-click context menu.
“Omnibox- Suggestion Transparency Development Bug (Delete match UI)” bug has been open from 2008 has taken some pace in 2019 and developers felt showing a remove button X for suggestion on hover is the right approach instead of offering context menu option.
Without any ado, to test the feature
1. Ensure you’re using latest Chrome Canary 80.0.3951.0 or later
2. Visit chrome://flags page, search for “transpa”, in the highlighted results, for ” Omnibox Suggestion Transparency options”,
3. Select “Enabled” and restart the browser.
As the flag says this feature “improves the transparency of and control over Omnibox suggestions”.
The “Why this suggestion” flag mentions in the description used to exist previously, as we said before, that is the context menu option that has been set aside now. As of now, the Chromium team is looking to offer suggestions remove button (x) to Mac, Windows, Linux, and Chrome OS in the Omnibox aka address bar.
