Microsoft Edge Canary Update adds Translate feature, here is how you can enable it

As promised Microsoft has made the Translate feature available to Canary users, the latest update for Edge Canary 76.0.144.0 added it to the flags page, you need to enable it to translate the foreign language pages in Edge browser.

Till now to translate pages in in Classic Edge browser, you need to install Microsoft Translator extension manually from Microsoft Store, which no longer required in case of Edge browser based on Chromium as the company has integrated Translate service into the Edge preview build.

The Microsoft Chromium-based Edge browser has offered Translate feature powered by Microsoft Translator to some users in the Canary channel, when this brought to MS attention, the company said the translate feature will be available to all Canary users by this month end. It’s here, but behind a flag, you need to turn it on, here is how.

Enable Translate feature in Microsoft Edge Canary (Chromium)

1. Ensure you’re using latest Canary version of Edge,

2. Visit edge://flags

3. Head to edge://flags/#edge-translate or search for Translate, for “Microsoft Edge Translate”

4. Select “Enabled”

5. Restart the browser.

This enables Translate Setting “Offer to translate pages that aren’t in a language you read” in Languages.

1. Visit any different language page other than you’ve set for Microsoft Edge browser, you’ll be asked to translate to the language you read, click “Translate”..

2. For instance, if you read webpages in English in Edge, visiting German site asks should Edge translate the page to “English”. FYI, you can also able to translate by selecting the option in page right click menu.

3. To restore original language, click on Microsoft Translator icon in the address bar and click “Show original”.

We think this as game changer for Microsoft Chromium Edge browser and it helps to compete with Google Chrome that has Google translate feature built-in, what do you say?
