As announced by Mozilla earlier, starting from Firefox 52, the browser plugin support has been removed, means, with this change, the plugins which used to work till version 52, will no longer work when next Firefox version releases on March 7. This applies to the Google Hangouts plugin as well. Google has confirmed in a blog post ‘ Users will not able to make audio or video calls in the upcoming Firefox 52 release’.
Google Hangouts no longer work in Firefox
The company is developing a solution to make Hangouts work in Firefox browser without needing a plugin. While using chat on Hangouts will continue to work for Firefox users, but if you want to make phone or video calls from hangouts, search giant recommends temporarily switching to one of the following browsers:
- Firefox ESR
- Google Chrome
- Internet Explorer
- Safari.
Running Firefox ESR 52.4.1 – installed google video plugin; every time I want to do video call, a window comes up: video call ended because of an error (eom) I have tried uninstall, restart, other plugin version but nothing works. Reinstalled video plugin 50+? times. Text messaging with hangout on the gmail platform works fine. Also searched internet for any other help or tech support without success. Also tried with disabling virus protection and browser safety – no change. Please help!!
You should be using Firefox ESR version prior to 52 for video calling to work.
