How to disable Yahoo Messenger Update Checker-YMUpdater.exe?

New version of Yahoo Messenger 0.8.109.244 for Windows has been released and available for download with support for sending animated GIFs, bulk photo sharing, unsend and offline and low connectivity mode features. After installing the new Yahoo Messenger desktop app, Yahoo Messenger Updater Checker with process name YMUpdater.exe will be configured to autorun on Startup of your computer.

If you don’t want that extra startup item –apart from Yahoo Messenger.exe that needs to run from the beginning — you can disable it, here is how you can do that.

Disabling YMUpdater.exe 

1 .On Windows 10, open task manger, visit Startup tab

2. Select Yahoo Messenger Update Checker and click on ‘Disable‘ button to turn it off.

If you’re using Windows 7 or an older Windows version

  • Open Run dialog using Win+R key, type msconfig and press enter
  • Click on the Startup tab and deactivate the Messenger Update Checker.

FYI, Yahoo Messenger 11.5 and versions released prior to that, will be discontinued from August 5, 2016 and may not function. So update to latest version of Yahoo Messenger today and enjoy new features and technology.
