In 2013, Google has introduced notification center for Chrome browser on Windows, Mac and Linux to show rich notifications outside the browser on desktop for apps and extensions, search engine giant has noticed only few user are vising the notification center, that’s why they’ve decided to remove it from forthcoming version. However, Chrome OS users on Chromebooks will continue to receive notifications through notification center.
Chrome Notification Center to be removed
“So in 2013 Chrome launched the notification center, a place for users to find notifications from Chrome apps and extensions that they’d missed. However, in practice, few users visit the notification center. To keep Chrome simple, it will be removed from Windows, Mac, and Linux in the upcoming release. The notification center on Chrome OS will remain unchanged.”
But Chrome already supports push notifications for web pages since v42, so you’ll surely receive notifications on every platform via Web Push standard, but the notifications sent to the notification center after its demise will result in an error.
Are you sad at missing the Chrome notification icon in your system tray?
