Users using Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8/8.1 who installed (Optional) KB3035583 update have started to see notification from Microsoft on their taskbar to reserve a free copy of Windows 10. Windows 10 RTM rumored to release in mid July this year.
When you install the update mentioned above, it triggers GWX.exe app in system 32 folder to trigger that pop up via Start like icon in the system tray (or install now to get that ad), you need to follow the steps appear on the screen to reserve your free upgrade to Windows 10.
Once done, when RTM version is available, it will be downloaded via Windows Update and you’ll be notified once complete. You can install it then or set a a time that’s convenient for you.
Removing Windows 10 upgrade popup
If you don’t Windows to nag you about that, open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Installed Updates, select KB3035583 update and uninstall it.
What do you say on this? Do you wait till Microsoft officially releases it or make your reservation right now?
I had the Windows icon since I reserved my version of 10. This morning I clicked on the icon and it went away and nothing happed. I have tried all I could think of so I then went Contact Us and had to set a time for Windows to call me at 6:15pm (pst). Why did my icon go away and nothing happened?
Thanks for your help,
Jason
