Google has released an extension to control running of the animated images in their Chrome browser. You need an extension in Chrome browser to disable the GIF animations, if you’ve found them more annoying on the web, there is now an extension available on the Chrome Web Store with a name Animation Policy from the Google Accessibility team to run them only once or disable completely.

If you want to try it out, install it, click on its icon on the toolbar and select either from the two options, where the extension allows all animated images by default.
