Bookmarking Star missing in Chrome Omnibox [Fix]

Last updated on March 16, 2015 By Venkat

Not finding the star icon to bookmark pages in Chrome omnibox? Your profile might have corrupted, the fix is simple:you need to create a new profile to bring it back.

If you don’t use Chrome by signing into your browser, export your bookmarks to an HTML file, so that you can import them later or if you sync your bookmarks and other browser data to your Google account to access on other devices, sign into it and ensure all data is synced by visiting this page https://www.google.com/settings/chrome/sync.

Fix Bookmark star icon not appearing in Chrome address bar

1. Create a new profile.

Open your current profile folder in Windows, here is its location

Windows XP: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\
Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\

Use Run command to reach there, rename ‘Default’ folder to backupdefault.

Now launch Chrome, new profile will be created, this time bookmarking icon star appears at the end of the address bar.

Has that fixed for you? Have you experienced this?

Not sure what is going on with the postings as my previous mentioned is not showing, only the one about Email address error. So, again:

My issue with v42 of Chrome is not that the STAR bookmark icon is missing from the omnibar, but it is grey. And no drop-down when I click on it with any choices. It is a blank or empty comment” type icon.

Has anyone tried the beta v43 or canary v44 of Chrome to see if this is pervasive? http://omahaproxy.appspot.com/ I am now using v42. stable version of Chrome

Easy solution: Go to chrome://flags/#enhanced-bookmarks-experiment to re-enable the new bookmarks manager

Aman you should be disabling that flag than enabling.

Aman, that fix is no longer working. It’s 11/2016 and that feature “enhanced-bookmarks…” is NO longer in the chrome://flags

Flags won’t last long. As I mentioned in the post, creating a new profile fixes the issue, have you tried doing that?
