Summary: Google already offers Reset button for Chrome Settings if they are hijacked without your knowledge, now the Chromium team has gone ahead and shows the culprit extension that manipulated crucial Google browser settings and lets you disable it from the browser settings page.
Disable the extension that has overridden Chrome’s Settings
We all know extensions installed in the browser (whether they’re from outside or from Chrome Web Store) can change search provider, homepage and New Tab Page.
Starting from Chrome Canary on Windows, if an extension overrides selected Chrome settings such as startup pages, homepage or search provider, a grey box will appear next to those on the settings page -chrome://settings- and shows a message ‘An extension, … is controlling this setting’ and offers ‘disable’ button to deactivate that extension. This feature soon will land on beta channel.
