
Version 2.0 for GMER, free rootkits detector and remover has been released and available for download from its website. GMER v 2.0 has added support for Windows 8 and 64-bit Windows. And other notable additions are Traces I/O function and disk “Quick scan” function.
For the uninitiated, GMER is popular rootkit removal tool that existed from 2006 aids users in detection of rootkits that were hidden through processes, services, registry keys, alternate data streams and drivers hooking such as SSDT, IDT and IRP calls.

Using GMER is easy, download the zip file extract its contents to a folder and run gmer app, once the program window is displayed click on “Scan” button. When the scan finishes suspicious files, that could be possible rootkits will be highlighted, you can able to delete them from right-click menu after selecting the file. User should always proceed with caution.
You can copy the scan results and then paste them to notepad or click on save button to save the log file.
Avast users should know that GMER technology is already integrated into their antivirus, but they can perform the on-demand scan for rootkits on their Computers at any time with GMER standalone tool.
