The fastest way to redeem a Spotify Premium code
Spotify's documented route is its website, not the app. The page works in any browser on a phone, PC or Mac.
- Open spotify.com/redeem in a browser. It sends you to the login page and then to spotify.com/account/redeem.
- Log in to the Spotify account that should receive Premium.
- On a physical gift card, gently scratch off the PIN cover with a coin or card to reveal the code.
- Type the code into the field exactly as printed.
- Click Continue.
- Click Redeem.
Spotify codes use capital letters, numbers or a mix of both. There are no lowercase letters, so type every letter in capitals.
Which kind of Spotify code you have and where it goes
A Spotify Premium code is a string of characters that adds Premium time to an account. Where it comes from decides where you use it and who handles problems.

Spotify gift cards are no longer sold. Previously purchased cards stay valid and can still be redeemed, so no shop or website is a safe place to buy a new one. To pay for Premium now, pick a plan at spotify.com/premium.
Check these rules before you enter the code
Most failed redemptions break one of these rules. Checking them first saves you from burning your limited attempts.

Redeem a Spotify code on your phone
Use the phone's browser rather than the Spotify app. Apple does not allow Premium sign-up inside the iPhone and iPad app, and Spotify's redeem steps use its website on every platform.
- Open Safari, Chrome or another browser on your iPhone or Android phone.
- Go to spotify.com/redeem.
- Log in with the same method you use in the Spotify app, such as email, phone number, Apple or Google.
- Enter the code in capitals.
- Tap Continue, then tap Redeem.
- Open the Spotify app, log out and log back in so the app picks up the new plan.
Redeem a Spotify code on a PC or Mac
Any desktop browser works, including Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Safari. The Spotify desktop app is not needed.
- Open your browser and go to spotify.com/redeem.
- Log in to your Spotify account when the login page appears.
- Paste or type the code into the code field.
- Click Continue.
- Click Redeem.
- Go to Manage your subscription on the account page to confirm the new Premium time.
If a shared computer is already logged in to someone else's Spotify account, log out first. A code cannot be pulled back once it is redeemed.
How to check the code worked
A successful redemption shows on your account page, not in an email you need to wait for.
- On the web, go to Manage your subscription at spotify.com/account/subscription/manage.
- Check that the plan shown is Premium, and read the billing date at the top of the account page.
- In the app, tap your profile picture at the top.
- Tap Settings and privacy, then Account, then Billing.
- Play a song on demand or download a playlist to confirm Premium features are active.
- If the account page shows Premium but the app does not, log out of the app and log back in.
What happens to your current plan after you redeem
A gift card adds time to an individual Premium plan. When that time starts depends on the plan you have today.

Your playlists, saved music and settings stay the same whichever plan you move to or from.
How to cancel after redeeming a Premium code
Gift card time is not a recurring payment. If no payment method is saved, the account drops to free on its own when the time runs out, and there is nothing to cancel.
- Go to Manage your plan at spotify.com/account/subscription/manage.
- Select Cancel subscription to stop payments that would start after the gift card time.
- Check Payment on the account page if cancel is not offered; a partner company may bill the plan and handles cancellation.
- Return an unused store-bought gift card to the store for a refund, since Spotify refers those requests to the retailer.
After a paid plan is cancelled, Premium stays until the next billing date and then switches to free.
Fix a Spotify code that will not redeem
The code is reported as invalid
A character was misread; a zero looks like a capital O, and a capital I looks like a one.
- Re-read the code in good light and type every letter in capitals.
- Swap lookalike characters one at a time, such as 0 for O or 1 for I.
- Stop before your fourth failed attempt and double-check the whole code.
- Message Spotify support through the Contact us page if the code is damaged or unreadable.
An error appears after several tries and nothing works
Spotify locks redemption after 4 failed attempts.
- Stop entering codes.
- Wait 24 hours.
- Enter the code again, checking each character first.
The code is not valid for your country or region
The account's country or region does not match where the gift card was bought.
- On a free account, go to Edit profile on the account page.
- Scroll to Country or region and check the value.
- Select the correct country from the list, then click Save profile. Your new country only shows when you are physically there.
- If you signed up with Facebook or Apple, change the country or region with that service too.
- Return the card to the store if you cannot use an account in the card's country.
The code can't be used with your current plan
Gift cards can't be applied to Premium Student, Family, Duo, trial offers, Basic plans or accounts with an add-on.
- Check your plan under Manage your subscription.
- Remove any add-on if that is the only blocker.
- Otherwise, redeem the card on an individual account that is free or on Premium Individual.
- If a partner company bills your Premium, cancel with them and redeem once the account is free.
A store-bought card is rejected straight away
The cashier did not activate the card at the till.
- Check the receipt for an activation line.
- Take the card and receipt back to the store and ask them to activate it or refund it.
The code redeemed on the wrong account
The browser was logged in to a different Spotify account, or you use more than one login method.
- Open Edit login methods to see which email, phone number, Apple or Google login each account uses.
- Log in to the account that received the time and confirm it under Manage your subscription.
- Message Spotify support from the Contact us page; Spotify's help pages do not describe moving redeemed time yourself.
The code redeemed but the app still shows Spotify Free
The app has not refreshed the account, or Premium was added to a different login.
- Log out of the Spotify app and log back in.
- Check that the app uses the same login method as the browser you redeemed in.
- Confirm the plan on the web account page.
How to avoid Spotify code scams
Spotify gift cards are no longer on sale, so any site offering new Spotify gift cards or "free Premium codes" is not a Spotify channel.
Redeem only codes from a card you bought before sales ended, or from a partner promotion you can trace to the partner itself, and type them only on spotify.com. Spotify never asks for your password, payment info or tax ID by email, never requests payment through a third party such as Western Union, and only sends mail from addresses ending in @spotify.com. Forward suspicious messages to [email protected], then delete them. If you already entered your password on a fake page, reset your Spotify password and change it anywhere else you reused it.
Keep the receipt and the card until the Premium time shows on your account. Store-bought card refunds go through the store.
