How to disable Secunia Update Agent (sua.exe)?

When you install Secunia PSI on your computer, you can notice related sua.exe process with a description Secunia Update Agent is running in Task Manager under the ‘Processes’ tab even though PSI is not open.

Sua.exe runs from the location ‘C:Program FilesSecuniaPSI’. If you don’t want this process to run constantly in the background and on the startup of computer, you can disable it, here is how.

If you don’t know, Secunia Update Agent performs routine updates of selected software on the system, you can see the result of those in the Secunia PSI.

Disabling Secunia Update Agent (sua.exe)

1. Open Services, by typing ‘services.msc’ in the Run command

2. Find ‘Secunia Update Agent’, double click on it to open its properties window, on ‘General’ tab, choose ‘Startup type’ as ‘Disabled’.

3. Click ‘OK’, and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Side note: When PSI is open, apart from sua.exe which runs automatically on startup, you can  notice its other processes such as psi.exe (Secunia PSI) , psi_tray.exe (Secunia PSI Tray) and psia.exe (Secunia PSI Agent) running  in the Task Manager, that’s completely normal.

Note: When you disable sua.exe, PSI may not perform routine updates for selected software on your computer, so before disabling it,  make sure you know what you’re doing.
