Earlier today we’ve covered new Microsoft Edge won’t be getting Legacy Edge’s Reading List feature, in other news related to the browser, Microsoft has promoted Edge 84 to dev version and is available for download with Legacy Edge’s secret full-screen mode (Shy UI) and selection-based Reading View for Immersive Reader features.
While you would love to read most of the content you find on the web in Immersive Reader in the new Edge browser, some sites yet don’t support the feature, on those pages, new Edge offers “Open in Immersive reader” context menu option to see the selected content in the reading view.
Initially, Microsoft made the feature available behind a flag named “Microsoft Edge reading View for Selection”, now the feature has been enabled by default in Canary and dev versions and the flag no longer exists.
To get started with the selection-based Reading view for Immersive Reader in new Edge, visit any web page, select some text, right-click and select Open in Immersive reader option to read the content in clutter-free mode. For the selected content opened in Immersive reader, Edge offers Read aloud, text and Reading preferences and learning tools options on the ribbon.
Classic Edge has a secret fullscreen mode feature built-in where when you press F11 in the browser with tabs open and if you hover your mouse pointer on top, browser frame appears, we’ve reported this has been brought to new Edge behind “Enable fullscreen dropdown” or “edge enable shy UI” flag, the flag has been enabled by default in Edge dev version.
Microsoft now makes it possible to access the tabs and address bar in fullscreen mode in new Edge mode in Dev version with a new dropdown UI when you hover the mouse pointer over the top, Microsoft calls this as Shy UI. To exit fullscreen mode, press F11. You can check this version’s full list of fixes, improvements and new features over here.
