Recently some Malwarebytes users who installed or upgraded to recently released version 4 are reporting they’re receiving “LoadLibrary failed with error 87: the parameter is incorrect” when they try to open it.
Some users reported on Malwarebytes forum [1] [2] they can’t open Malwarebytes 4 after installing, affected users said restarting the computer and uninstall and reinstalling of Malwarebytes with Malwarebytes Support Tool has not solved the issue. The error continues to appear despite these attempts from users.
After installing MBAM V 4, a box appeared that said “loadlibrary failed with error 87 the parameter is incorrect”. I right clicked on the MBAM icon in the tray and selected “open Malwarebytes” and the same error box popped up. I rebooted, tried again to open MBAM, and got the same error. I downloaded and ran the MBAM troubleshooter, had it clean uninstall MBAM and reinstall, but I still get the error. Files generated by MBAM troubleshooter attached, except for the license key.
While the Malwarebytes support team is still collecting logs to find the root cause for the issue, but a quick search for the error reveals the issue could be specific to the display driver and has nothing to do with Malwarebytes.
If you’re affected and receiving “LoadLibrary failed with Error 87: the Parameter is incorrect” error with Malwarebytes 4
1. You can uninstall Malwarebytes and reinstall Malwarebytes 3.7.1 version from third-party site Filehippo.
2. Uninstall your graphics driver and reinstall the latest version via Windows Update to avoid getting the issue and see if you can run MB 4 without any issues.
