If you’ve installed latest Cumulative Update KB4503293 on Windows 10 version 1903 which updates OS build to 18362.175, while viewing custom views in Event Viewer, Event Viewer may close or show error “MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unload it” the error dialog provides: two options: Report this error to Microsoft and then shut down MMC, Unload the snap-in and continue running.
Microsoft has acknowledged this issue on June 11, 2019, and today updated status from “investigating” to “mitigated”. The company now provides a workaround KB4508640 for this issue and promises estimate solution will be available in late June. The workaround involves running the function from here on Windows PowerShell.
To view custom views, the user needs to copy and paste the function mentioned above each time in a new PowerShell Window. Do note the get-Eventviewer function allows you view previously defined custom views only.
