The certificate issue is really hurting Mozilla badly, the company spent a lot of time in fixing the issue, as of yesterday, they’ve released another dot release Firefox 66.0.5 to address the add-ons issue. What this has done is it impacted Firefox 67 and other projects release schedule. The company says they need another week time to build and test 67 RC builds, citing that as reason, they postponed next Firefox version release by a week, was expected to come on May 14, 2019, will be available on May 21 st, 2019.
Firefox 67 release date is May 21st
It was a bad weekend for Mozilla, the company forgot to renew intermediate signing certificate for add-ons in Firefox, after it was expired, all add-ons were disabled, the organization released studies hotfix followed by Firefox 66.0.4 release, which followed by another dot release 66.0.5 and there are other unsolved issues they still need to fix.
Mozilla feels dust hasn’t settled yet and says Firefox 67 release requires another 7 days time for code freezing and RC builds to attain good quality levels and thinks they should not release another update for end users considering they released quite a few dot releases already.
Ritu Kothari from release management says in a mailing list that “Fx67 will launch on May 21st, a week later than originally planned for May 14th (Tuesday)”.
“-*67 quality* – Typically, we require a week of a code freeze and RC builds to ensure the release going out the door is meeting the high standards of quality, stability, and performance”.
Firefox 68 release date unchanged. What’s your take on this? [Thanks soeren]
