Firefox 66.0.4 update expected to release today, will re-enable disabled extensions

Mozilla engineers forgot to renew SSL certificate caused the issue for Firefox users where all add-ons were disabled and they couldn’t install new extensions from addons.Mozilla.org, the company rolled out a hotfix to release, beta and Nightly channels.

The fix worked for users who have Studies enabled, there are even complaints that it hasn’t worked for some where extensions are still disabled. Some hesitated to turn on studies due to privacy concerns.

Mozilla said before they ship permanent or general fix to address this issue, that is a dot release as you would expect. Well, version 66.0.4 is ready, as of writing, release candidate build 3 passed and got the green signal to ship to users. According to this bug, Mozilla readied release notes  for Firefox 66.0.4 with this information “Repaired certificate chain to re-enable web extensions that had been disabled.”

The 66.0.4 dot update will add the intermediate certificate and forces signature verification. Like every update, this may take time to roll out and reach your Firefox, you may need to manually download Firefox 66.0.4 (when officially available) and upgrade Ffox, to fix the issue.

As the release notes itself says affected extensions will be re-enabled, but not themes, so you’ve to manually re-enable themes in about:addons. Check all the unresolved issues in rel notes.
