Refurbished in India: is Apple Certified Refurbished available?

Apple does not sell Certified Refurbished products in India: the refurbished store page on apple.com/in returns Page Not Found, and the India store lists Apple Trade In but no refurbished section.

This guide explains what Apple's refurbished promise covers elsewhere, how to check a refurbished iPhone bought from another seller in India, and how Apple's warranty applies to it.

Is Apple refurbished available in India?

No. Apple runs no Certified Refurbished store for India, so any refurbished iPhone, iPad or Mac sold in India comes from a third-party seller, not from Apple. The apple.com/in/shop/refurbished address shows Page Not Found, and the India store's Ways to Buy menu lists Apple Trade In, Recycling Programme and Order Status, while the US store lists Certified Refurbished in the same menu.

A product described as refurbished in India is therefore only as good as the seller's own inspection and warranty. The checks below show what Apple itself records about the device.

What Apple Certified Refurbished includes

Apple's refurbished promise on its US store is the benchmark to compare an Indian seller's offer against. If a listing claims Apple-level refurbishment, these are the points to ask about.

Apple Certified Refurbished What Apple provides What to ask an Indian seller
Testing Full functional testing, cleaning and inspection Which tests were run, and is there a report?
Parts Genuine Apple replacement parts as needed Were any parts replaced, and are they genuine?
Battery and shell (iPhone, iPad) New battery and new outer shell What is the battery's condition?
Accessories All accessories, cables and the operating system Is a charging cable included?
Packaging New white box, free shipping and returns What is the return window?
Warranty Apple's standard one-year limited warranty, AppleCare available Whose warranty is it, and for how long?

For the general meaning of the label, what refurbished means covers the difference between seller grades.

How to check a refurbished iPhone in India

Run these checks before the return window closes. They use only Apple's own records, so they work whatever the seller claims.

  1. Open Settings > General > About and note the Serial Number and Model Number.
  2. Look for a Parts and Service History section on the same About screen. It appears on iOS 15.2 and later when the iPhone has been repaired.
  3. Read the label next to each listed part: Genuine, Unknown, Unverified or Used.
  4. Compare the model number with Apple's Identify your iPhone model page to confirm the exact model and region.
  5. Enter the serial number at Apple's View Coverage page (checkcoverage.apple.com) to see the warranty status.

Check refurbished iPhone warranty status in India

  1. Go to checkcoverage.apple.com and pick India if asked.
  2. Type the serial number into Enter a serial number.
  3. Complete the code check and select Submit.
  4. Read the coverage result: active Apple warranty or AppleCare, or expired coverage.
  5. Keep a screenshot of the result with the seller's invoice.

Apple's limited warranty lasts one year from the original retail purchase by the first end-user. A refurbished phone resold years later is usually outside it, so the seller's warranty is the only cover.

Refurbished in India FAQ

Is Apple refurbished available in India?

No. Apple's India store has no Certified Refurbished section, and the apple.com/in refurbished address shows Page Not Found. Refurbished Apple devices sold in India come from third-party sellers with their own warranty terms.

Is refurbished worth it?

Refurbished is worth it when the seller states what was tested and replaced, offers a return window and gives a written warranty. Without those, a refurbished device carries the same risk as a used one at a higher price.

Is refurbished better than used?

A refurbished device has been inspected and repaired by the seller, while a used device is sold as it is. The difference only holds when the seller documents the work and backs it with a warranty.

Are refurbished products worth it?

They can be, when the discount is meaningful and the product comes with a warranty and a return period. For an iPhone, check Parts and Service History and Apple's coverage page during the return window.

Is buying refurbished a good idea?

Buying refurbished is a good idea when you can verify the device. On an iPhone, confirm the model number, read the Parts and Service History labels and check the serial number on Apple's coverage page before the return window ends.

Is refurbished considered new?

No. A refurbished product has been used or returned, then inspected and restored. Even Apple Certified Refurbished products, which ship in a new box with a new battery and shell on iPhone, are sold as refurbished, not new.

Does a refurbished iPhone get Apple warranty in India?

Only if Apple's one-year warranty from the original purchase is still running, or AppleCare is active. Enter the serial number at checkcoverage.apple.com to see the status. Otherwise the seller's warranty is the only cover.
