If you visit chrome://policy page in Chrome browser, you’ll notice QuicAllowed policy being set, here is how to remove the “Managed by your organization” message in Chrome browser that was caused by Avast free antivirus installed on your computer.
Back in April 2019, we’ve reported Chrome 73 version has started to show “managed by your organization” message to users in the menu and Settings page, Google has said this is normal where they want to inform users about policies set for Chrome browser in your computer by third-party software or by you or by extensions. While we’ve covered Avast has caused the same issue for Firefox browser in the past, now the same antivirus is setting policy and making Chrome 81 or later versions to show the managed by .. message.
We also letting you know in the pre-release version of Chrome, due to Avast or AVG, an info bar showed up in Chrome with a message “You are using an unsupported environmental variable:SSLKeyLogfile”.
What’s happening here in 2020 behind the scenes with Avast version 20.2 is, to scan the network traffic in Chrome browser, the antivirus is disabling QUIC protocol by setting QUIC Allowed policy and its value to false, this can be avoided by disabling QUIC/HTTP3 scanning in Avast, for that,
Disable QUIC/HTTP3 scanning in Avast
1. Launch Avast Free antivirus
2. Click on Menu > Settings
3. Select Protection >Core Shields> Web Shield
4. Uncheck “Enable QUIC/HTTP3 scanning”
5. Close Settings and Avast UI, open Chrome where you’ll no longer see the message in question in the Settings and other parts of the browser.
Optional:
1. Launch Chrome,
2. Visit chrome://flags/#enable-quic page and select “Disabled” and restart Chrome browser
Do note, initially, Chrome offered “Show managed UI for manged users” flag to avoid the message, which is no longer available, that could be the case with Experimental QUIC protocol flag also later, however, we noticed disabling the option in Avast Web Shield settings is enough to get rid of the message.
The instructions mentioned above applied to Chrome 81 or later and Avast free antivirus 20.2 or higher on Windows.
