The recent snapshot version of Vivaldi 1.10 made devtools dockable and the stable release 1.9 came with notes sorting feature, today, the Vivaldi team has released another snapshot for version 1.10, which is now available with downloads sorting and allows Windows users using Windows 8 0r above to use Desktop Wallpaper as Start Page background image.
Downloads sorting
Till now Downloads that appear in sidebar panel won’t allow sorting. New update does that. You can now able to sort downloaded files by Name, Size, Date Added, Date Finished and Address. This is a feature you’ll definitely relish.
Set Desktop wallpaper as Vivaldi Start Page background
As you all know Vivaldi allows to set custom image as Start Page background, the ability to select desktop wallpaper and use isn’t present in the browser settings, which is available now.
V menu icon > Settings > Start Page, ensure ‘Show Background image’ is checked under ‘Background Image’ and select the newly shown ‘Desktop Wallpaper‘ before Custom option, Done
Wallpaper has been set Start Page background.
Start Page background? Nice!
But only on Windows 8 and above… ugh!
Actually, I found a way to use it on Windows 7 on the Vivladi forum. There’s a string of numbers and letters you put in the input box and it shows up as a custom background matching your wallpaper in Win 7. I wish I had bookmarked it or recorded it, but you can find it with a little digging on the Vivaldi community forum or whatever they call it. It works great.
Oh, and I almost forgot. The nice thing is, you can use your wallpaper for the background and STILL use the extensions. When you open a new tab, you’ll get the extension. But click the “home” icon on the menu bar and you’ll go back to your speed dial page with the background that matches your wallpaper. So you don’t have to sacrifice your speed dial for a nice, but otherwise (maybe) functionally limited extension background.
