Finally, after a long time, since the launch of Tab Hover Cards, Google has added an option in the Appearance settings of Chrome browser to control image visibility on Tab Hover Preview cards.
Tab Hover Preview Card Images introduced in Chrome displays a Preview of tab content and site information in a tooltip when you hover over it with the mouse.
Like many other features, Google left a related flag to control Tab Hover cards.
With Chrome 113, the company removed it. After criticism and high feedback from users, Google has restored the flag in Chrome 114 and assured it will provide a setting to address privacy or photosensitivity issues users reported so that they can turn it off.
With the latest updates in Canary, Google has quietly added a “Show images tab hover preview cards” setting with a toggle to control the feature. The option is available in Chrome 116.
Easily Enable or disable Tab Hover Card Preview Images in Chrome
- Launch Chrome
- Click on the menu and select Settings
- Select Appearance and Toggle off “show images on tab hover preview cards” to disable

Done, no restart required, the change is instant and Chrome no longer shows Preview images when you hover tabs, however, the browser continues to display site information in a tooltip when you put your mouse over a tab.
Google should have done this before, better later than never, it is surprising and rare to see Google bowing down to feedback and creating an option to appearance settings to manage Tab hover Previews visibility.
In other news related to Tab hover Cards, Chrome shows the memory used by each tab in the hover preview image card.
You can simply ignore Tab hover Previews, you can also disable them now in Chrome with a dedicated setting available. Some users found it “annoying” and “intrusive” while switching between the tabs. Google has addressed it now.
In case you don’t know, the new Microsoft Edge already provides a “toggle” for Tab Previews, Chrome has now joined it.
