Microsoft Edge Add-ons Store will get Themes Soon

Microsoft Edge already allows installing themes from Chrome Web Store, Microsoft too has released a theme for Edge, but till now like CWS, Edge Add-ons Store doesn’t contain a dedicated Themes page with themes to install in Edge. Soon this will happen, Microsoft is indicating this through Edge Canary.

Chrome Web Store contains themes from the Chrome team and other developers, which you can install in Edge.

How to install themes in Edge from Chrome Web Store

For that,

  1. Launch Edge browser
  2. Click on the ellipsis icon >  Extensions > Enable “Allows extensions from other stores.”
  3. Head to  Themes page on Chrome Web Store
  4. Select a theme and click on “Add to Chrome” to install

You can later remove that theme and restore the default look by visiting Settings > Appearance > customize Browser > Custom theme.

Edge Add-ons Store hosts a slew of themes, you can find them here.

Recently Microsoft released the “Wonder Woman 1984 theme” for Edge to Add-ons Store.

Difference between Extensions and Themes

Don’t get confused between extension and theme, both are add-ons.

While installing a theme in Edge, you’ll notice the “Add theme” option instead of “Add extension”.

And there are plenty of New Tab Page extensions available on the Store.

Installing a theme changes the new tab page and tab strip look.

To restore Edge theme to default

Visit Settings > Appearance > Custom theme and click “Remove”.

Be careful, Microsoft today has removed fake extensions from its add-ons Store.

Don’t install themes from new publishers, always check reviews, ratings, and comments before installing extensions or themes in the browser. This applies to other browser addon Stores also.
