Microsoft Edge for Android doesn’t download anything when there is no SD card, but there is a fix

The latest Edge Update for Android has fixed an annoying bug where it can’t download files when Phones doesn’t have an SD Card by showing ” SD Card not found”, the Edge couldn’t save the files to Internal storage like other web browsers.

Edge for Android-based on Chromium isn’t getting new features at the pace which the desktop version is getting. Edge-based on Chromium 77, is still on the backseat with fewer features when compared with other browsers albeit received Coupons feature with Price comparison to follow.

Here is the issue with more details:

According to a thread on answers forums, many users reported Edge for Android

  • fails to download files to Internal memory when the phone doesn’t have an SD Card.
  • It simply shows an error “SD card not found” when the user initiates a file for download.
  • With an SD card in place, it asks to choose Downloads or SD card for saving. When the user selects SD card, Edge downloads files to another location than the Downloads folder on SD Card.

Various users with different smartphone brands reported the issue.

They confirm the issue doesn’t occur for them in Chrome or Firefox or Vivaldi.

To circumvent, affected users have to download files in another browser on Android Phone

Edge for Android Update fixes the issue

Thanks to the latest update, the bug has been fixed

This, confirmed by a source to us internally. We were also not able to replicate the issue with no SD card installed on the Phone.

If you’re using the stable version and affected by this, head to Play Store, Search for Edge and download the update.

You should be using Edge version 45.11.2.5101 after installing the update.
