Searching in Windows 10 to get even better as Microsoft has extended indexing to all folders and drives by offering an enhanced mode for Search Indexer. The option currently available in insider build once enabled, searches your entire computer, including libraries and desktop instead of limiting the search to the desktop, pictures, videos and documents, Redmond giant says in a blog post.
Windows Search indexer gets Enhanced Mode
Enhanced indexing is a one-time process may take a lot of time than you expect, but once indexing is complete, you’ll be able to find your files instantly when you use Windows Search.
To turn on Enhanced mode,
1. Click start, type ‘Windows Search Settings’, and open the best result that appears on top
2. In Search Windows Settings, under ‘Find My Files’
3. Select ‘Enhanced’ to start the indexing process.
Microsoft says this is a one-time thing and Windows recommends to use it as you can see from screenshot below, but the option itself warns choosing it may ‘reduce your battery life and increase CPU consumption’.
Do note, Window Search service runs continuously in the background and indexes new files when it finds, if you don’t want to use Search feature in Windows 10 as that may consume too many resources for indexing, then you may have to use Everything desktop app which does a better job at showing files you’re looking for quickly.
