Firefox 81 is out with Credit Card autofill and new Alpenglow theme

In addition to Windows, Mac, Linux, Mozilla has released Firefox v81 for Android also and the latter is now available on the Play Store for download. Both desktop and Android versions come with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. Check out what’s new in this release below.

Desktop:

  1. Media Control: After Chrome, Firefox now lets you control media playback with multimedia keys on the keyboard. An overlay with volume bar and controls appears when you use hardware media keys to manage the video. This overlay even appears on the Windows lock screen.
    If you don’t like hardware media controls in Firefox, disable it by changing the below pref value to false.

  2. Alpenglow theme: Mozilla added a new default theme, Alpenglow, in addition to the default, light, and dark themes available in the add-ons manager. To enable this theme
    Menu > Addons > Themes > Firefox Alpenglow, click Enable.
  3. With this release, Mozilla has started to roll credit card autofill feature for shopping needs to users in the US and Canada.
  4. PDF Viewer, PDF.js updated according to Photon design guidelines and supports Form filling.

Android:

Firefox for Android aka Fenix is gaining new features. This version came with many.

  1. Received Downloads option in the menu to check downloads
  2. Most visited sites now appear on the home screen
  3. Allows to auto close tabs after one day, one week, or after one month.
  4. Allows to switch tabs horizontally on the address bar
  5. Supports Password migration for Master password users
  6. Overall 9 recommended extensions available: UBlock Origin, HTTPS Everywhere, Dark Reader, Privacy Badger, NoScript, Decentraleyes, Search by Image, YouTube high definition, and Privacy Possum. Mozilla will offer more recommended extensions for you to enable in the months to come.
