Windows 10: The Audio Service is not running

If the volume icon in the taskbar in Windows has an error icon and on hover over shows the message, ‘The audio service is not running’, the issue is easy to fix. The reason for the issue could be a faulty audio driver or security software you’ve installed.

Generally, then clicking on the volume icon opens the Audio troubleshooter, performs various checks, including that of audio service status and resolves the issue automatically for you. If you’re having this issue, you don’t need to choose anything in the wizard.

To open the audio troubleshooter in Windows

1 . Click on start menu and type Audio

2. From the list of results, select ‘Find and fix audio playback problems’

Troubleshooter after running, finds and fixes the problem with playing sound on your computer.

On our system, installing Kaspersky Internet Security has caused this issue, which was fixed by running the troubleshooter mentioned above, you don’t need to uninstall Kaspersky to solve this issue.
