A year and six months back, Malwarebytes launched a beta version of Browser Extension for Firefox and Chrome, the company after through testing, recently released stable version of extension with new name “Malwarebytes Browser Guard” and is available for Chrome and Firefox browsers on respective add-on stores.
Malwarebytes from the beginning claimed their browser extension is first of its kind available in the World to block fake tech support scams, the company now boasts, their new Browser Guard extension speeds up browsing up to 4 times faster by blocking third-party ads and unwanted content.
After Malwarebytes 4, which is currently in beta, Browser Guard gets a new UI. You may be asked to enter your email to activate the extension after its installation. The company confirms they’re doing this to improve product communication with the customers.
1. By default, the extension blocks third-party ads, trackers, Malware, Scams and Potentially Unwanted Programs on all websites. You can customize the settings for individual websites in the “Current website” tab.
2. The number of ad networks and trackers blocked are displayed on the main dashboard.
3. If you want to disable certain protections offered by Browser Guard extension for some websites, you can do so by adding their URLs in the “Allow list”.
4. The Statistics tab on the dashbord displays the number of trackers or ads blocked during the 30 days period.
As of right now, Malwarebytes Browser Guard is available for Chrome on Web Store. But the company has pulled Firefox extension from AMO, after fixing few issues, it will be listed again on Mozilla add-ons site . After installing the extension, Malwarebytes icon appears on toolbar and starts protecting you from ads and trackers.
Do note the company is updating installed Malwarebytes Browser Extension beta to Malwarebytes Browser Guard, if you’ve already installed beta version of extension before, your extension will be updated to latest stable verison 2.0.1.
