How to Create a new Google Chrome User Profile?

June 5, 2010 by Venkat Eswarlu

Google Chrome _logo

There will be lots of problems when a user’s browser profile gets corrupted, a browser profile contains bookmarks, passwords, user preferences, history of website addresses visited by the user and those will be saved in the user’s profile. Whatever changes made to the browser, will be saved to that. If your Chrome’s user profile was corrupted, you can create a new user profile very easily, here is how.

Chrome default profile folder

Creating a user profile for Chrome

1. Completely close all opened Chrome windows.

2. Open the Run command and enter the following path

For Windows XP –  %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data

For Vista/7  –  %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data

3. You can see the ‘Default’ folder, which is Chrome’s default profile, rename it to ‘Backup Default’.

Now when you start Chrome, a new default folder will be created automatically. After that, you can transfer browser bookmarks and other settings to newly created profile.
