Opera 56 on developer stream has received an update, Opera Software has introduced ‘enhanced address bar’ that will show speed dials and other page functions in dropdown such as copy, paste, Paste & Go, Save as, Save as PDF, Screenshot and Add to Speed dial.
What is Enhanced address bar in Opera and how to use it
Here is how the new feature works: Enhanced address dropdown will appear when you press the down arrow on your keyboard on start page or if you click on combined address bar and search bar while browsing. Opera feels this feature avoids the need to go to start page for speed dials, and on the whole, the company claims enhanced address allows users to carry their speed dials wherever they browse.

Here we feel, you’ll find Save as PDF option in enhanced dropdown the most useful. FYI, Save as PDF option is available in the page right click menu and in Page Sub menu in Opera menu.
By using the enhanced address bar you can quickly launch websites in the speed dial, Save a web page as PDF, capture the screenshot of a page, add the current page you’re on to Speed dial.
If you like the feature and going to use it, that’s fine. If not, like us, if you’ve felt enhanced address as intrusive and annoying that comes in your way while browsing when you press left mouse click in the address bar, you can disable it, here is how that can be done.
Disable enhanced address bar dropdown in Opera 56
1. Visit opera://flags/#better-address-bar
2. For Better Address bar Experience flag
3. Selected Disabled, restart the browser.
We’re expecting Opera to roll out a UI option for enhanced address in Settings when they ship Opera 56 stable. We’ll update this post when that happens.
