Firefox 63: about:profiles ‘Launch Profile in new browser’ now works on Windows

If you’re using different profiles for Firefox browser for various reasons or purposes, till now the about:profiles page has provided ‘launch profile in new browser’ button to open other profiles in a new browser window, that hasn’t worked so far for Windows users, doing so in current Firefox 61, actually opens another instance of the current running profile. This has been fixed by Mozilla in Firefox 63. From Firefox version 63 onwards, the browser will use -no-remote switch to launch a new browser from about:profiles. So switching between profiles is going to be easier.

The issue is reproducible.

  1. Visit about:profiles
  2. If you’ve only one profile, create a new profile by clicking the button provided in the about:profiles page.
  3. Now under the new profile, click on ‘Launch profile in new browser’

The new profile now opens in a new Firefox window on Windows in Firefox 63.
