Always you need to keep an eye on the programs running on Windows startup as there is a chance for applications you install to bring unwanted software that could make your PC run slow with popup ads everywhere. One place to look for such programs is in the Startup tab of Task Manager, in that process today, we’ve noticed the “Opera Browser Assistant”, we’ve found it belongs to Opera Software and is installed by Opera developer version.
If you’ve discovered Opera Browser Assistant with other Startup items in Task Manager, you can navigate to its location by right-clicking on it and by selecting the Open file location option or run the following command depending on Opera version you’re using.

To know Opera Browser Assistant is a legit program/malware and to which publisher it belongs to, right-click on it and select its properties dialog and check Digital Signature’s tab, you shouldn’t expect any surprises here unless a malware disguised with that name.
Now there are two ways to remove this.
How to remove or uninstall Opera Browser Assistant
Method I.
You can set its Startup type to Disabled in Task Manager and visit the path mentioned above and delete all files and the Assistant folder.
Method II.
There is another way where you can make Opera remove it (as it has installed it) by uninstalling Opera browser without affecting user data, for this
1. Visit Control Panel > Programs > Programas and Features
2. Select Opera and click Uninstall
3. In the Opera Installer dialog, don’t select “Delete my user browsing data” and again click Uninstall
4. Now Opera will uninstall and remove browser_assistant and other files including the Assistant folder.
5. Now reinstall Opera and pray for Opera Installer not to install its Browser Assistant this time.
Note: If you’re using more than one Opera stream, ensure you’re uninstalling the right Opera version that has installed the Browser Assistant. For instance, by reaching one level above the folder of browser assistant we’ve identified the developer version has installed the browser assistant.
