Firefox 63: Disable Tab Thumbnail Previews for Ctrl+Tab Shortcut

If you’ve used Ctrl+Tab shortcut for tab switching in Firefox browser, know this, the shortcut in Firefox 63 now displays thumbnail Previews of tabs in recently used order. Mozilla has turned on the Preference ‘Ctrl+Tab cycles through tabs in recently used order’ they added in Firefox 50 by default now in Firefox version 63 now for new Profiles.

Interestingly, the old tab switching behavior has the edge as it allows to cycle through all tabs in a sequence where the new one lets you cycle through a maximum of 6 recently visited tabs in the UI and offers List all tabs option below.

If you like the new UI for tab switching for Ctrl+Tab shortcut, no problem you can continue to use it, but if it impacts your workflow badly, you can disable it and restore old tab-switching behavior, here is how that can be done.

1. Firefox menu  > Options > General

2. Under Tabs, uncheck ‘Ctrl+Tab cycles through tabs in recently used order’, no need to restart the browser.

1. Visit about:config

2. Find and change browser.ctrlTab.Previews to false.
