Edge Immersive Reader gets Automatic mode and new Fonts

Microsoft Edge’s Immersive Reader that strips distractions from web pages is getting even better. Microsoft is currently testing the ability to automatically enter Reader View for eligible pages in Edge and added three new fonts for the user to choose from.

Immersive Reader is one of the best features of Microsoft Edge after Vertical Tabs and Collections.

Edge has recently added support for Wikipedia for the same and collapses data tables to let you focus on other key data tables.

By turning on the dark theme (there is a “dark gray” theme too available under Page themes) in Text Preferences, you can relax your eyes while reading.

In a nutshell, Immersive Reader

You can enter Reading View on Edge by pressing F9 or by clicking on the book icon in the address bar.

Auto Immersive Reader

Now and then, you may want to force or Edge to enter reading mode automatically for certain pages. Edge dev and canary version now offering a flag for that. When enabled, Edge automatically loads edible pages in immersive mode on the visit.

Enable edge://flags/#edge-auto-enter-immersive-reader and restart browser to test it out.

Note: There is no way to prevent Edge from automatically entering Immersive Reader.  So be wary, you may not want all the websites to open in Reading view, Edge may also trigger a “no data found” error when you visit the home page of a website.

Three new Fonts

Microsoft added three new fonts named Calibri, Sitka, and Comic Sans to Immersive Reader in Edge.

The new fonts are rolling out to select users in Edge 93 canary.

You can able to select a font in Text Preferences, check the below screenshot.
